Oh Darling Of Mine, Where Have You Been?
Atlantic City Beachfest Concert Series, July 29th, 2018. Could it possibly be any hotter? I love The Chainsmokers, but I’m not so sure they’re worth passing out for. I lost count of the amount of walks I had to take to the ocean to feel remotely okay. Hours of waiting under the hot, beating sun. All leading up to dancing and singing and sweating out any ounce of energy I had. We didn’t even have a great spot, but we still a great time. Before the long drive back, we needed nourishment. The drive there took double as long after Waze turned us around and had us start driving in the direction of HOME! We started the trip over again from Staten Island after starting from Brooklyn over an hour before. The drive is 2.5 hours as it is, and I needed a break before we did it again, especially during Sunday night traffic during the summer with everyone coming home from weekend trips from Atlantic City.
We couldn’t make it very far with the way we were all feeling, so The Continental restaurant next door inside of the Playground Pier would have to do. After we were revived enough to the hit the road, on the way down the escalator, we crossed paths with Drew Taggart from The Chainsmokers and Emily Warren who is often featured on their tracks on the landing of the second floor while they were boarding the escalator to go up. Thankfully, they didn’t seem to notice our overly embarrassing reactions to seeing them, and we had an instant to make a decision. We’d be crazy not to go back up and follow them, right? Though I am physically active, stairs is not one of my strong suits, and by the time we got back up to the third floor, I was completely breathless. I passed the torch to my friend to take one for the team and flag them down. “DREW!” He immediately turned around. “Sorry to bother you, can we take a picture with you?” He was totally cool with it as long as we stepped into the lobby of Buddakan where they were going to eat. It was dark and no one would be able to tell who they were. Their photographer oh so kindly asked if we’d like him to take the picture. Of course, duh, what kind of question is that! We got our group picture and thanked Drew for both his kindness and his performance.
After a day that initially may have not seemed so worth it, now it couldn’t have been missed for the world. What an ending, one that was fit for the couple we imagine in The Chainsmokers hit song “Closer” featuring Halsey. If only every concert could end this way, but I make sure as many of them as possible do 😉
