Just Two Beautiful Boys in NYC, Okay?
Polo Red Rush launch, Macy’s Herald Square, October 11th, 2018. It had been exactly THREE years since I last met Ansel, but no amount of time could ever lessen my love for the real life Augustus Waters. Ansel will always hold a special place in my heart, and I hope I don’t have to go another 3 years until I meet him again (we’re going on two now 😭). I sure do love a good excuse for a celebrity I love to partner with a brand and do an in-store appearance to make me buy something I don’t need, yet I have absolutely no problem with it because the prize is well worth more than the price to pay. In this case, I would be buying not one, but TWO men’s colognes within one week to meet both Ansel and then Nick Jonas the following week. Christmas was close enough so it could be chalked up to a gift. Hey, if it’s good enough for Ansel and Nick it’s good enough for anyone right? 😅
The unfortunately common theme of Macy’s meet & greets as of late was being thrown by PETA protestors in disguise. The last Macy’s meet & greet I attended for Gigi Hadid got so bad that after three attempts to harass her, the event was cancelled and I unfortunately never got to meet her, and never got another chance to since. I love animals more than anyone and would NEVER wear fur, but I also wouldn’t physically and verbally attack someone for their choices. I don’t at all support it, but I’m a fan of someone because of their work, not because of every single personal choice they make. These are not your friends, they’re people you admire and just like everybody else, nobody’s perfect (Hannah Montana style).
Thankfully, Ansel’s meet & greet didn’t get as out of control as Gigi’s and he just rolled with the punches and maintained his composure so everyone could enjoy themselves. He risked the potential danger to please his fans that were so eagerly waiting to be graced by his presence for a few precious moments. Apparently Ansel thought I was a friend of someone he knew, which though that was not the case, it bought me a few extra seconds of Ansel’s interest. I got my totally adorable hugging picture from the giant lanky human and it was off to the next event to see Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carrell’s screening of Beautiful Boy.
Beautiful Boy movie screening, Lincoln Square Movie Theater, October 11th, 2018. The Beautiful Boy screening was followed by a Q&A with the cast members, mostly powered by Steve Carell’s comedic relief and apparent adoration for Timothée Chalamet. On the way out of the theater, we were forced out an exit different from how we entered, turning me around from the direction of the train. As fate would have it, that exit was where everyone was waiting for the cast to come out so naturally we fell in line with the crowd. There was barely anywhere to squeeze in, I was in the street up against the cars awaiting their designated celebrities which security was not fond of. Steve Carell ran straight into the car I was leaning on, but that’s probably because he knew all the teeny boppers were waiting for Timmy. When the Beautiful Boy himself emerged, he couldn’t be more accommodating making sure he took a picture with every single person. I was practically floating between the crowd trying to stay grounded as I was the last lucky one to get a picture and it’s truly a miracle it didn’t come out blurry. Meet & greets can really take crowd surfing to a whole new level when people’s dreams are on the line. It was a whirlwind of a day meeting two of Hollywood’s young, charming and talented heartthrobs…to think I will do it all over again to meet Nick Jonas in just 8 days, squee!
