Governors Ball

Governors Ball, Randall’s Island, NYC, June 2nd, 2019. As someone so heavily obsessed with festival culture, this was my first time attending Governors Ball! I think it’s something about being from NYC, like how New Yorkers are jaded and don’t go to see the sites (though I can proudly say I’ve been to every single one). NYC is just rugged and gritty compared to the beautiful desert oasis that is Coachella, but honestly Coachella’s lineup has been sorely lacking and I don’t pass up any chance to see The 1975. Between the lineup, activations and food, there’s really not a bad time to be had at any festival and I would love to travel around and experience the rest of them.

The grounds were sledged with mud after heavy rains that we had been having lately, but that wasn’t going to stop my festival attire. Though Govs Ball is a lesser synonymous festival when it comes to fashion, I never pass up any excuse to show up and stand out. The proof is in the Instagram posts as can be seen above and there was way more where that came from. Even though over eating didn’t really go with my outfit, there was just too many food fantasies to sample! I’m still obsessed with my mini unicorn floaty koozie that came with my Taiyaki ice cream.

My favorite part of festivals is discovering new music or even just watching a set of an artist that you might not have necessarily bought a ticket to their own show. I had a ball bopping along to Kacey Musgraves, who I don’t know if I love more for her music or her personality. “Golden Hour” took on a whole new meaning during the start of sunset. And watching The 1975 perform at festivals around the world while the sunsets gets more blissful each and every time. Music outside is just a whole different vibe, especially “end of the world” type places where you just feel completely free, happy and overall outer-worldly. I encourage anyone who has never been to a festival to start because the hype is real, even if you only do it once in your life!
