When Your Celeb Crush Calls You "Love"
Macy's Herald Square, NYC, March 2nd, 2017. Joe Jonas' Guess ad campaign was life changing for not only myself and girls around the world, but also redefined giving the brand new life...I mean, have you seen the photos?! I was getting my nails done when my friend texted me that she was in the back of a cab and they were playing a commercial to meet Joe Jonas at Macy's. I was as shocked as she was that I had not heard of this before! We were on the ground floor of this announcement when later that day the tweet and Instagram post went out from Joe. Starting Tuesday, February 28th at 10am, the first 100 customers to purchase $100 in the men's section (how ironic since basically only women would be buying this) would receive their golden ticket to meet Joe on Thursday night. I read it so fast I thought you had to make the purchase the day of the event, until I realized Tuesday night that was not the case.
Wednesday morning I made it my mission to stop at Macy's before work and keep my fingers crossed that it wasn't too late. I called my whole bus ride there in hopes that someone would answer my prayers so I didn't have to have a heart attack the whole way there and ultimately arrive for no reason. Being that they don't open until 10am, sure enough my heart would have to sink until my fate was decided in person. It was another mad dash against the clock as usual - I had to get to work! It was a wet miserable day and I sweating to death running through Macy's looking for the men's Guess section. I was greeted by a worker who was standing right by the phone that I was calling and that she didn't answer! I asked her if there were any meet & greet passes left, and she excitedly told me how lucky I was because they were almost gone (I was #66, let's not make it like I was #90). She was so bored and thrilled to talk to me that she was trying to pick things out for me, so I kindly had to say I had to buy something for $100 and get out. She continued to follow me around and ask how I knew about the event...because I'm his biggest fan, duh! She then excitedly told me, "Did you know his whole band is going to be here?!" Greattt. As much as I love DNCE, it's been a lightyear since I've gotten to see Joe solo. I doubted they would be in the picture since they have nothing to do with the campaign and they probably would have had to charge more, but I was looking forward to just Joe. So much so in fact that I almost passed on this meet & greet because I cannot stand the way him and Nick look when they shave their heads. I came up with so many captions for this picture that I decided were better not to use, especially with that bright pink bomber - why was he not in anything but his Guess boxers!
Caption ideas:
1. But you're not the boy in the photos...
2. What is that? Super freaky thing? Yes that's right, it's a naked mole rat!
3. When you never thought you'd need a naked mole rat emoji
All jokes aside, who knows the next time I would have an opportunity to get a picture with just Joe. After I checked out with a bomber jacket for my boyfriend for $108, my Macy's friend led me to the person running the event who would give me all of my entry needs. This was one of the most secure meet & greets I have ever done. You had to bring the official Macy's letter, your stamped receipt, and your ID, and if you were missing any of those things you would not be allowed in. Jeez, do you want my social security number too? My Macy's friend told me to get there early and that she would be on site for the event. Wonderful, I was getting there at 6pm whether they liked it or not. You all know by now these things never start on time.
Macy's men's Guess department was bumpin that night - sans DNCE but instead with Mikey Deleasa DJing. I made it just in time to practically the end of the line. Again with the high security, they took our cellphones so I had to find my two friends who have never met but were ironically right in front of each other at the end of the line. I was devastated when a girl about 10 people in front of me was wearing the same shirt - that has never happened! I take meet & greet outfits very seriously and this was truly disturbing to my soul. I was in the middle of my two friends, and when Joe transitioned between saying goodbye to my friend and saying hello to me, I saw when it processed that he knew me. Mid greeting he said, "Oh hey love, good to see you again!" He called me love 😍 It stopped me in my tracks, I was smitten. I was off to collect my photo, both printed and emailed, and when I gave my information to the host with the iPad she stopped and looked at me and said, "Your hair is AMAZING". I was taken aback once more as I came straight from work and didn't even get to look in a mirror when I arrived. I said, "Really? It's from like 7 this morning, I didn't even get to look at it!" In awe she said, "What is your secret?!" I told her my mom is a hair dresser and blows my hair out every morning, but I curled my own hair! She gave me the usual response this garners, "I wish my mom was a hair dresser and did my hair every morning!" It helps to have a live in glam squad, thanks mom 😉
