First Came Me & Dad Said, “Gee!”

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, New York City, March 6th, 2018. This Is Us was back tonight, and what could be a better viewing party than meeting Kevin himself live in the flesh?! They warm are hearts and virtually wipe our tears every Tuesday night, and it was time to start meeting one of my all-time favorite TV families that I consider my own.

Justin didn’t have time to stop on the way in, and the unseasonably warm March day turned into a blustery winter evening waiting for him. To keep us entertained in the meantime, we idolized all the guests coming and going from Stephen Colbert because of course since we were waiting for Justin he was taping last. As I’ve learned from history repeating itself, you don’t pass up an opportunity when a celebrity is asking you if you want a picture with them. So we embraced ourselves with our new grandma, Helen Mirren, who couldn’t be any sweeter making time for every single person there. She was an absolute treat and helped pass the time taking our minds off the cold as we were underdressed from the unexpected drop in temperature. I had to keep making sure my phone was prepared on selfie mode while freezing my fingers off which was getting old after doing it countless times.

Finally, with just enough time to go to make it home in time to actually watch This Is Us (I had a viewing party waiting at my house), the beautiful Justin Hartley emerged and there was a momentary lapse of judgement that almost seemed like he would vanish into his car, but alas he came around and crossed the street into the crowd of loyal fans waiting for him since the sun was out. For someone who hasn’t been dealing with this level of fame all too long, he certainly was a pro. He’s the first person I’ve ever met that had a system, and a good one at that. “I’ll do pictures first and then autographs, ok?” he announced as he then went down the line to whoever had a camera before he would come back around for whoever was holding out a pen.

Stunned by charm, I can’t say I said much. I got what I came for and then it was time to make a mad dash home for my guests who I had even made e-vites for this very exciting event complete with wine and cheese. Anyone who watches This Is Us knows it just makes you want to be surrounded by your loved ones, so why not cry all together instead of texting or talking about it later? And who doesn’t love a good excuse for a food party whatever indulgence it may be. The Pearson’s bring us together and teach us to value life and the relationships we make because we never know when they could be taken away. Life is a constant learning lesson, make sure you bring only the best people along for the ride.
